The Sanitary Pads Programme Took Away My Shame

Owiny Grace couldn’t hide her joy while sharing the sad story of her life. Grace a disabled 30 year old disabled female was born in a poor family. Coupled with her disability status she was not accorded equal opportunities both at home and in the community, said Grace while wiping away tears of joy.

Grace’s turning point in life came this year when she was traced to her village by field staff of AFCE Uganda to benefit from their programme of sanitary pads project. At first she was scared because she undermined herself and had low self esteem. After attending training and several meetings she picked courage and gave herself and time for the project, she didn’t miss any of the training. Six months down the road, Grace is no longer ashamed of herself she is the lead trainers at the cottage industry and a role model to other disabled girls in the community.
